About this model
HEED 3, manufactured by Submersible Systems, is a compact, lightweight Category A self-contained breathing apparatus intended to improve the survivability of military and commercial personnel following unintended submersion in water. Developed from the need to equip US Navy helicopter pilots with a small, handheld breathing device, the HEED line has been manufactured since 1979. The HP-4500 model combines a 2.9 cu ft carbon-fiber cylinder rated to 4,500 psi with a separate second-stage regulator and a standard 20-inch flexible braided hose. Applications described by the manufacturer include helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, float planes, watercraft and vehicles operating around possible water emergencies. Submersible Systems describes HEED 3 as having the smallest footprint in the EBS market.

Refilling your HEED
Optional 920CS stainless-steel air-compressor refill adapter (+$65). This model requires HP-specific filling hardware and a suitable 4,500 psi breathing-air source.
The selected adapter is supplied with every unit on that cart line. For three HEED units and one adapter, add one unit with an adapter and two units with None as separate cart entries.

Hand-pump note: the manufacturer does not recommend the Hill hand pump for 4,500 psi models. Use the appropriate compressor setup for HP-4500.

Mounting and setup
The included holster provides a mounting arrangement for compatible MOLLE equipment. These photos illustrate the device’s scale and available mounting positions. Life vests and PFDs shown are sold separately; select the holster orientation offered for this model and confirm fit with your equipment.
