Using Spare Air

Spare Air puts emergency backup air within reach. Read your owner’s manual and practice using your unit in controlled conditions before you need it.

1 · Remove

Remove Spare Air from its holster.

2 · Clear & breathe

Place the mouthpiece in your mouth. Exhale sharply or press the purge button to clear the regulator before inhaling.

3 · Ascend

Breathe normally and begin a controlled ascent in accordance with your SCUBA training. Never hold your breath.

Understand your available air

The current 3 cu ft diving models contain 85 liters of air; the 6 cu ft models contain 170 liters. Depth, breathing rate, exertion and stress affect duration. No fixed number of minutes or ascent depth applies to every diver.

Practice with your setup

Confirm you can reach the unit and remove it from the holster. Practice deploying and breathing from it in controlled conditions, then refill before diving.
